As a health network that includes a 557-bed hospital, over 70 doctors’ offices, and five community medical centers — such as urgent care and outpatient surgery — Lexington Medical Center provides its South Carolina community with multi-disciplinary services across the continuum of care. Managing the data that flows throughout an organization this size is no easy feat and team members used to struggle to analyze and transform the data into actionable intelligence.
After implementing Syntellis’ Axiom™ Enterprise Decision Support (EDS), Lexington Medical Center can extract accurate, timely data that helps operational, financial, and clinical leaders make more informed decisions.
“Axiom Enterprise Decision Support brings cost data to the forefront to drive strategy, inform planning decisions, and support operational and clinical performance,” said Rob Beeman, Director of Decision Support for Lexington Medical Center.
Increasing Buy-In with Fast and Trustworthy Data
At Lexington Medical Center, EDS makes answering questions and addressing doubts easier.
“Axiom EDS puts answers at my fingertips, including reports that I can generate and tie to the GL system,” Beeman said. “All those questions where people didn’t trust the data, I have reports now that show what is in the GL and what is in Axiom — and I can use that data to explain the differences.”
Access to timely, accurate data also promotes stakeholder buy-in and helps make the process of bringing in physician champions easier. When rolling out EDS, Beeman and his team looked for quick wins by focusing on high-impact areas. They also began with a manageable report package for end users that was timely and easy to interpret, navigate, and drill for more detail.
“Physician sponsorship develops once you prove to them that the data’s accurate and you’re transparent,” said Beeman. “Being transparent is critical to fostering understanding and cooperation.”
Trust and transparency not only increase stakeholders’ support but ultimately lead to more valuable conversations that drive more holistic decision-making, resulting in meaningful change and positive impacts throughout the organization.
A Comprehensive, User-Friendly Selection of Tools
When new requests for data or reports inevitably arise, Lexington Medical Center already has the tools necessary within EDS. From multiple data integration options to ad hoc web reporting, the solution is designed for comprehensive, scalable use.
“One of the things that I like about this tool is the extensibility,” said Beeman. “As we assess or adapt, there might be data I didn’t have in the solution before that we all of a sudden need visibility into. We can get to that data and bring it into our EDS solution so we can help people manage their areas.”
EDS also offers the flexibility needed to take advantage of different costing methods. “Often in other solutions, we’d have to do a lot of gyrations to get to a transaction level of micro-costing,” Beeman said. “But with Axiom, you’re not locked into just using RVU or RCC. Depending on what you want to achieve, you can use a blend of three or four costing methodologies. That’s a bonus.”
Once costing data has been extracted, Lexington Medical Center can choose how to share the results with end users and other stakeholders most effectively. EDS offers three different ways to deliver reports — a flexible web interface, an Excel report, and export to a third-party business intelligence tool with ready-built Power BI dashboards you can optimize.
"Flexibility and user-friendliness are key here. There’s nothing I haven’t been able to do yet within the Axiom EDS system. From building new service line definitions to loading, scheduling, and bringing in extended data, it is truly an easy-to-use solution."
A Partner for Your Costing Journey
With Implementation, Support, and Optimization teams composed of experienced healthcare professionals, Syntellis has been with Lexington Medical Center every step of the way.
“Syntellis has a very talented team, and bringing this team together weekly has really helped me grow with the solution,” noted Beeman. “Whenever I reach out to them, they offer to call right away or schedule a meeting at my convenience. I know they take great pride in helping us achieve what we set out to do.”
Without actionable data, healthcare organizations can easily struggle to make sense of it all and deliver the best outcomes for their communities. Beeman recognizes the power that data-driven insights can bring to an organization: “We want to deliver safe, effective, timely, and patient-centered healthcare. We want efficient healthcare, and we want equitable healthcare. And the Axiom EDS platform brings it all together for us.”
