The COVID-19 crisis has caused dramatic financial harm to California hospitals, according to a new data analysis prepared by Kaufman Hall (in partnership with Syntellis Performance Solutions) for the California Hospital Association. The current and future financial impacts of the pandemic on California hospitals include:

  • A 35% decline in discharge volumes and 62% decline in ED visits in April 2020, as compared to typical monthly volumes
  • A likely net loss in revenues of $14.6 billion through the end of December 2020
